Carter Creek is located about 30 miles from Evanston, WY in National Forest land in the Uinta Mountains at an elevation of 9500ft. Due to this high elevation, temperatures can be significantly different from temperatures at Hill AFB. They range from 60s and 70s during the day and can drop to below freezing at night especially during September and October and snow storms can also occur anytime during the Fall – Spring months.
Outdoor Recreation and Tickets and Travel (ORTT) receive numerous calls asking about rules and regulations for camp fires at Carter Creek. Because Carter Creek is located in a National Forest we are required to follow the fire restrictions they set day-to-day. Fire restrictions can be put into effect anytime the Forest Service deems necessary.
Reservations can be made for anyone living less than 50 miles away from Hill AFB. For reservation information please call at ORTT (801)777-9666 or (801)777-3525. The camp is open 7 days a week from July 1st to October 31st.
